Social media creates self-doubt, especially among teenagers who are already undergoing through many hormonal changes and trying to create a new identity for themselves.
We use social media every day and we usually see people living their life to the fullest but is it always true?
Many adolescents do this so they could feel accepted by the society, instead of showing the real you they try to portray themselves as a different person , in this journey they completely forget what they actually want to be because of how distracted they are with fantasising lives of influencers.
They usually fall under the social media influencers and vloggers who promote brands social media influencers and vloggers are not only restricted to promoting brands and businesses but also do various kinds of jobs such as food vlogging, travel vlogging, a day in my life vlog and the list is endless.
Maximum population of adolescents find this kind of job amusing and instead of focusing on studies and trying to build a career for themselves in something more stable, they try to become social media influencers or content creators.
Teenage minds are young and still grooming differently, social media polishes their mind in a way they become insecure about themselves and start self-doubting what they are, they feel the pressure to seem like someone who is not "cool" or "doesn’t have a great social life"
Many adolescents are unable to find their potential because they always hide themselves trying to fit in among social groups.
The filters on social media apps are getting out of hand, they cover up the natural skin so that people can look like they have glass skin, and they make the nose smaller because big noses aren't a part of beauty standards, and lashes become bigger, eyes get prettier, every girl is expected to have a small waist and thick thighs, every guy is expected to be tall and has a great body.
Social Media expects us to be something we are not, filters are one of the reasons why teenagers have social anxiety and are insecure about themselves, growing up nobody tells us that having skin filled with acne is okay its a part of the teenage years, nobody tells us that having a big nose is okay it does not make us any less pretty, nobody tells us that having a curvy body or being skinny doesn’t make you look bad, nobody tells us that it's okay to have a short height.
Yes we can work on not having skin with acne and scars, and we can work on our bodies, but why can't we just accept ourselves as what we are, why do we need validation from others about the way we look, at the end of the day it's only going to be you with yourself and you're supposed to feel comfortable under your skin, self-love is very important because nobody is going to stick with you the way you stick with yourself.
Hope every teenager gets to read this, and hope they get true n real to their skin...
